The man who attacked Paris Hilton’s boyfriend Cy Waits outside a Los Angeles courthouse on Wednesday has been sentenced to serve time behind bars.

James Rainford accosted the entrepreneur as he escorted Hilton to a court hearing in Van Nuys, California, and was physically dragged away by security men.

On Thursday, Rainford appeared in court to plead no contest to misdemeanour battery and was sentenced to 227 days behind bars. He was also ordered to stay away from Hilton and Waits after his release and given three years of informal probation.

Last October, Rainford was arrested outside the heiress’ Hollywood Hills home after trespassing on her property and then fighting with her security staff.

Hilton was in court this week to testify against Nathan Parada, the man who allegedly tried to break into her home earlier this year.
