Kevin Costner is to direct ‘A Little War of Our Own’.

The 55-year-old star, who has previously directed ‘Dances with Wolves’ and ‘The Postman’, will helm the action adventure movie, as well as playing a starring role.

The story, which has been penned by ‘The Hurricane’ writer Dan Gordon, tells the tale of a sheriff attempting to keep a town from descending into violence during World War II.

Armyan Bernstein, from financiers Beacon Pictures, said: “This has been a dream project for Kevin and I for years. The themes are timeless – war, peace and reconciliation. The canvas is epic – look at the movies Kevin has directed.”

Kevin picked up two Oscars for his involvement with the 1990 film ‘Dances With Wolves’, in which he directed and played the role of exiled lieutenant John Dunbar.

Casting has now begun on the movie, which will begin production later this year.

Kevin has taken a break from big Hollywood movies recently, although this year stars in ‘The Company Men’ alongside Ben Affleck.
