Conan O’Brien signs to US cable network TBS

Conan O’Brien has signed up to host a new show on US cable network TBC, despite reportedly discussing contracts with Fox, it is announced.

NBC recently paid him $45m (£28m) to end his seven-month reign as host of The Tonight Show to make way for the return of former presenter Jay Leno.

O’Brien’s manager Gavin Polone told The Associated Press it was the “swiftest complex deal” he had made in 23 years.

A TBS spokesperson said O’Brien’s new show is expected to start in November.

“They didn’t let anything get in their way,” Polone said.

“There were other opportunities where Conan would have made more money, but for Conan it was never about the money.”

The as-yet-untitled show will be broadcast Mondays to Thursdays and could clash with Leno’s Tonight Show timeslot.
