That baseball that they play on the North Side of Chicago, that’s not “serious” baseball – at least not the way Barack Obama sees it.

Obama, a Southsider, was asked by ESPN’s Stuart Scott what would happen if both the Cubs and the White Sox made it to the World Series.
“I would be going,” Obama said.
“Who would you root for?” Scott asked.
“Oh, that’s easy,” Obama replied. “White Sox. (DUMB ANSWER)
“I’m not one of these fair weather fans,” the junior senator from Illinois and presumptive presidential nominee of the Democratic Party explained. “You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer, beautiful people up there. People aren’t watching the game. It’s not serious. White Sox, that’s baseball. Southside.”
BULLSHIT!
I like Obama and I respect the fact that he’s honest about his choosing the sox over the Cubs, but to imply that Cubs fans aren’t serious about their baseball is crazy! All the Chicago Cubs fans I know are very passionate and very knowledgeable about the game, I cant say the same thing about whitesox fans.
Not a very diplomatic thing to do and he should know there are a LOT more Cubs fans the sox fans and he better hope this doesnt cost him some votes, which it will.

It won’t cost him any votes. If fact, he was just speaking the truth about some Cub fans. I’m guessing a majority of the season tickets are held by corporations, who just use the games to woo clients. I think he was talking more about that than the drunken fans out there, which there are also plenty of.
Cost him one vote, this one.
In hindsight, the genius of it. St Louis hates the Cubs, as does Cincinnati , Astros, and Milwaukee..which gets him votes in Missouri, Texas, Ohio and Wisconsin. He already had Illinois.
But if you are a Cubs fan, and voted for him, TURN IN YOUR BLUE JACKET NOW.
Okay, so I’m admittedly REALLY late to this thread. It’s Crosstown Classic time again in Chicago and I was just looking up this Obama quote. Anyway, Geo says that St. Louis, Cinci, Brewtown, and Houston all hate the cubs. I don’t know about Houston and Cinci, and Geo is DEFINITELY right about Milwaukee, but St. Louis? Really? The “rivalry” between the Cards and cubs is entirely one sided. St. Louis fans don’t think about the cubs. They’re a joke to the Cardinals. St. Louis has won 10 World Series since the last time the Cubs won one. They are the second most successful team in baseball history. The cubs are arguably the least successful. If there’s a true rivalry in the NL Central, it’s Brewers/cubs. They’re both perpetually awful. The only difference being that Milwaukee rarely gets anyone’s hopes up.
