July 5th, 2007

Al Gore III, the son of former Vice President Al Gore, was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana and prescription drugs in California on Wednesday.

At around 2:15 a.m., Gore III, was pulled over for allegedly driving a blue Toyota Prius at speeds in excess of 100 mph about 30 miles south of Los Angeles. After cops detected the smell of marijuana coming from Gore III’s hybrid, they searched the car and found marijuana and a variety of prescription drugs, including Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall. No prescriptions for the medications were present, acccording to police.

The 24-year-old son of the former Vice President was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail’s Intake and Release Center in Santa Ana, where a $20,000 bond was set. He was released just before 2 p.m.

According to Damon Micalizzi, director of public and community relations for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Gore III, who lives in Los Angeles, “had a very dangerous cocktail of drugs with him.” He was alone in the Prius when he was arrested.

Gore faces four drug charges, including possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Gore III was arrested in 2003 for marijuana possession and in 2002 for suspicion of driving under the influence, according Reuters. After the 2003 arrest, Gore III, who is the youngest of Al and Tipper Gore’s four children, completed substance abuses classes before settling the charges.

This can’t help Al Gore’s presidential run, or can it.
