Former child star Corey Haim is all set to wed his girlfriend actress Tiffany Shepis.

The couple first met 12 years ago on the set of 1996 film Fever Lake, but didn’t embark on a romantic relationship until they recently reunited at a horror movie autograph convention.

And now the 36-year-old has announced they are to wed next year.

A statement on Haim’s website reads, “A big mazal tov goes out to Corey - he is getting married!! The lovely lady is Tiffany Shepis! The wedding has been set for May 9, 2009!”

Mackenzie Phillips pleaded guilty to one count of felony cocaine possession in a Los Angeles court Friday, and agreed to enter an 18-month drug deferment program.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank [law enforcement] for stopping me, and probably saving my life,” she said.

As part of the program, if Phillips successfully completes her drug treatment, the entire case will be dismissed. The actress stated she’s currently enrolled in a live-in treatment center in Louisiana.

“You’re making tremendous progress [in rehab] and I’m proud of you,” Judge Schwartz told Phillips. “This is a lifelong battle you’re in.”

Phillips was arrested Aug. 27 for drug possession at Los Angeles International Airport. She was found “carrying what appeared to be heroin and cocaine in baggies and balloons,” airport police said.

The former One Day at a Time star was formally charged with two felonies, for possession of heroin and cocaine, as well as a misdemeanor charge of unauthorized possession of a hypodermic needle or syringe.

Prince William has already learned to fly helicopters. Now Prince Harry hopes to follow in the footsteps of older brother.

He is set to undergo intensive assessment in November to see if he has what it takes to join the Army Air Corps training program. He has already passed some initial tests, his office says.

But unlike William – who already has some flight experience and plans to become a search and rescue pilot – Harry hopes to fly attack helicopters, like the Apache.

The training program – which includes mastering the Gazelle, Lynx and the heavily-armed Apache aircraft – lasts more than two years.

The prince, who served a tour of duty in Afghanistan earlier this year, has made no secret of his desire to follow up with additional deployments in trouble spots around the world.

The 24-year-old currently serves as a tank commander for the Household Cavalry army regiment.

“He has enjoyed flying and shown an aptitude for it,” his spokesman says, noting that it’s common for young army officers to try something new at this stage in their careers.

Tragic actor Heath Ledger may have suffered from bipolar disorder, according to a new book.

The Brokeback Mountain star was found dead in his New York apartment in January from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

Now a new biography of the star - entitled Heath: A Family’s Tale - reveals his uncle Haydn suffers from the depressive condition, and suggests it might have run in the family.

Haydn tells author Janet Fife-Yeomans, “I don’t mind people knowing I have bipolar disorder, and it’s a shame that it took this long to be diagnosed.”

Amy Winehouse has been hospitalised with a suspected chest infection.

The troubled singer was rushed to hospital on Saturday (25.10.08) for scans after fears she had a return attack of the disease emphysema - which she developed and was treated for in June this year.

Amy - who is still battling drug addiction - was visited by a doctor at her London home last Thursday (23.10.08) but was rushed to The London Clinic after her condition worsened.

The centre is the same place she has previously undergone treatment for her drug problems.

A friend said: “Amy is in hospital being checked out for a chest infection. She is not back in rehab. She should be fine and is expected to return home soon.”

Amy, 25, was worryingly thin and had yellow teeth as she was admitted to the hospital. The scans she was given were precautionary measures to check emphysema had not returned.

Showing there were no hard feelings – well, maybe a few – Tom Cruise skewered his one-time Today show adversary Matt Lauer with one-liners in a surprise appearance Friday at a Friars Club roast.

“Believe it or not, Matt and I are friends. Some of you may find that hard to believe,” said the actor, who famously scolded Lauer on-air and called him “glib” during a discussion of psychiatry and post-partum depression during a now-notorious 2005 interview.

The roasts specialize in dirty humor that poke fun at their honorees. Cruise had a field day at Lauer’s expense.

“When they do ‘Where in the World is Matt Lauer,’ I’m the one person in the world who knows where he is,” said Cruise, who showed humorously doctored slides of the two of them at a backyard barbecue together, wading in a swimming pool and cuddling on a jet-ski.

“We go on vacation together,” claimed Cruise, who also said they speak on the phone “sometimes four times a day” and watch TV together “for hours.” Cruise also credited Lauer with advising him not to talk about his movie War of the Worlds when he appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s show (on which he jumped on Winfrey’s sofa), but to talk about his then-new girlfriend, Katie Holmes.

“He said, ‘Tom, Tom, don’t be glib, You’re in love.’ ” Talk about Holmes, Lauer suggested. “Be inspiring … People will love you for it,” Cruise quoted Lauer as saying.

The actor also credited Lauer with advising O.J. Simpson to go into a Las Vegas hotel room and reclaim his sports memorabilia, and with advising Katie Couric to leave Today for the CBS Evening News.

Former Red Dwarf star Danny John-Jules has been found guilty of attacking two refuse collectors.

The British actor was arrested in February (08) on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm following the incident outside his London home.

John-Jules is said to have accosted the men wearing only a bathrobe and slippers, after they failed to empty his trash bin. He then lashed out at the pair, punching and kicking them.

Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother were the two victims of a fatal shooting in Chicago, the actress’s publicist says.

“We can confirm that there is an ongoing investigation concerning the deaths of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, and her brother, Jason Hudson,” rep Lisa Kasteler says. “No further comment will be made and the family has asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.”

The victims’ bodies were found by officers Friday in a South Side home listed in the name of Hudson’s mother, and police say the shooting appeared to be related to a domestic disturbance.

Hudson’s 7-year-old nephew, Julian King, is missing. An Amber Alert has been issued for him.

“We are searching for a young boy from that address who is missing,” says Chicago police spokesman Officer John Mirabelli.

A man authorities were searching for in connection with the shootings, identified as William Balfour, 27, has been taken into custody and is being questioned by authorities, the Associated Press reports. No charges have been filed.

According to the AP, police spokeswoman Monique Bond says police are talking to “a number of people in custody” but she declined to further elaborate.

Hudson, 27, the Oscar-winning actress from Dreamgirls and an American Idol alum, recently got engaged to boyfriend David Otunga. She stars in the current film The Secret Life of Bees.

While she’s been spending much of her time focusing on comeback efforts,  Britney Spears is doing her best to spend as much time as possible with her two young sons. And the “Gimme More” singer was spotted out paying Sean Preston and Jayden James a visit at their school in Los Angeles earlier today (October 23).

Shielded by a big black umbrella, Miss Spears offered up a glare to paparazzi hiding in the bushes before getting behind her umbrella cover and heading to a chauffeured ride.

As  previously reported by Gossip Girls, the 26-year-old pop tart is fresh off of the good news that a judge has dismissed criminal counts against her in regards to her case for failure to provide a valid California driver’s license.

And though she came out victorious, Britney’s lawyer Michael Flanagan recently revealed that his client is still struggling with building herself back up.

Flanagan recalled how Spears told him: “I can’t face all those people. I don’t want to deal with all the people.” He adds, “She is not very strong. She is still very fragile. I had to explain things to her.”

A Louisiana man has filed a lawsuit against Oprah Winfrey, claiming she and an attorney made false statements that led the FBI to arrest him on charges that he tried to extort the talk-show host.

Keifer Bonvillain, who had the charges dismissed, seeks damages of $180 million from Winfrey, her attorney and the FBI in the federal lawsuit filed Tuesday.

Bonvillain, of Houma, La., was arrested in December 2006 after he allegedly recorded telephone conversations with an employee of Winfrey’s production company and told a company associate he wanted to publish a book based on the recordings. The FBI said he claimed to have offers from publishers and tabloids ranging from $500,000 to $3 million.
