Are congratulations again in order for Nicole Richie and Joel Madden?

After a late Friday night performance with his band Good Charlotte at the Hot 99.5 Lil’ Black Dress Party hosted by Perez Hilton at the Clarendon Ballroom in Arlington, Va., Madden was walking offstage when Hot 99.5 morning show deejay Kane announced to the crowd, “He got engaged yesterday. Congratulations, Joel!”

To that, Madden quickly glanced back over his shoulder but was otherwise unresponsive as he made a hurried exit from the stage behind brother Benji.

“We heard this morning,” Kane told PEOPLE following Good Charlotte’s 40-minute set. Crediting he got the word from “good sources,” Kane said he hadn’t seen Richie since hearing the news, but added he had offered his congratulations to Madden earlier in the night. “He said, ‘Thank you so much,’” recalled Kane.

“They’re very excited about the baby and the wedding. They want to keep their personal life personal,” he added.

While there were no sightings of Richie at the party, she and Madden, who are expecting their first child together, were spotted touring Washington, D.C., earlier in the day.

The pair, along with entourage in tow, popped into Nathans of Georgetown restaurant for a late lunch before making their way to the upscale Georgetown baby boutique Dawn Price Baby.

“…According to insiders, “Kevin (Federline) was going to use the frying pan, but Britney grabbed it and hit him with it when he turned his back. He grabbed the pan out of her hand and walked away, but she hurled an ashtray at him.” Supposedly, the entire altercation was caught on surveillance tape!

Then there’s this little gem…

“He (Federline) and his Beverly Hills attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, have obtained sworn affidavits from three former Spears employees — a nanny and two bodyguards — detailing horrific examples of Brit’s lack of parenting skills.”

“What those affidavits allegedly reveal about Britney and how she treats Sean Preston, 23 months, and Jayden James, 11 months — including ranting ‘You were both mistakes!’ at the tots — are shocking and disturbing and they could prove to be the straw that shifts custody to Kevin!”

My goodness.  Brit must be the absolute worst mother in the world.  How could any mother tell her kids they were mistakes???  I think she was a mistake.

TMZ has learned famed divorce lawyer Laura Wasser wants to quit Brit.

Sources connected to her divorce case tell us, Wasser is about to resign as Spears’ attorney. The disso-queen, who has repped scores of stars including Angelina Jolie and Nick Lachey, sealed the deal on the divorce late last month. Now that the divorce is done, Wasser is done.

We’re told Wasser has put Spears in touch with other lawyers who could help the singer in her ongoing custody battle with Fed-Ex, but Spears has become so reliant on Wasser she doesn’t like any of the alternatives. There’s probably good reason — with Spears flipping out before our eyes, it’s pretty amazing Wasser was able to get a 50/50 custody split in the settlement.

As for why Wasser wants out, we’re guessin’ crisis of conscience.

John Mayer has cooled rumors he is dating Mandy Moore by romancing Cameron Diaz over dinner.

The couple were spotted enjoying an intimate dinner at New York eaterie Indochine and, according to spies, were “very playful and cozy.”

A source tells New York gossip column Page Six the couple “met years ago at a concert (but) their relationship just started”.

TMZ has obtained pictures of a smiling and happy Lindsay Lohan as she takes a break from rehab at the Cirque Lodge in Orem, Utah.

The actress walked around the town yesterday, took in the gorgeous scenery and hit up Beaches Tanning Center before making her way back to the Lodge. We’re told that Lindsay bought a $20 spray-on tan from Beaches, in addition to several more $16 tans. Lindsay was “very nice” to the folks there.

We’re told she went to the mini mall to work out at the Gold’s Gym, which is contracted out by Cirque. The Tanning Center is right next door.

Lohan has been a “model patient” in rehab and is currently working on her sobriety at the world-renowned Mormon facility.

A TOPLESS BRITNEY SPEARS got down and dirty in a hotel pool with her former assistant SHANNON FUNK.  According to pals, the ladies cleared the hotel pool of other guests so they could enjoy kissing and fondling each other.  Britney’s wild behaviour followed her topless romping with video extra MATT ENCINIAS in the same LA hotel.  Britney stripped to just her knickers, hat and shades and partied with until 4am - seducing Matt first then Shannon.

One friend said: “Britney seemed more into this girl than she ever has been into a guy.  Even though the hunks were hot, Britney made a beeline to cavort with Shannon.  She seemed insatiable.  Shannon’s been a great pal to Britney through very tough times. It was inevitable they’d end up close - but no one knew just how close.”

A schoolfriend of Brit’s said she had shared a French kiss with another girl when she was just 16.

She said: “Britney likes to experiment.  She doesn’t care if it’s a boy or a girl - as long as they are hot.”

A woman who says she was in the car Lindsay Lohan was chasing the night she was arrested for her second DUI has sued the troubled actress, saying Lohan “put me through one of the most frightening experiences of my life.”

According to the suit, Tracie Rice was in the SUV driven by Michelle Peck, the mother of LiLo’s former assistant. Rice says she “was convinced that their lives were in danger and that they had to outrun the pursuing car or they might be killed.” The night of the incident, Rice claims Peck was so terrified at being chased by Lohan that she drove through a barricade and into the parking lot near the Santa Monica Police Station. Rice says she jumped out of the Cadillac Escalade and ran toward police officers and saw a woman, who turned out to be Lohan, run from another SUV toward her. “Police officers approached all of them with guns drawn,” the suit said.

The suit was filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court. She’s suing LiLo for intentional infliction of emotional distress, and also seeks unspecified damages and payment of medical and other expenses.

In her first blog update since becoming a resident of Los Angeles less than a month ago, Victoria Beckham has already started to talk like a Valley Girl.

“Hi everybody. Hope you are all well,” she writes on her Web site. “Well we have finally unpacked our boxes and I am loving our new house – it is totally major!”

Beckham, 33, her soccer star husband David Beckham, 32, and their three sons opened the door to their $22 million Beverly Hills home on July 13 and, although she blogged upon their arrival, she hasn’t bothered to file a message in the ensuing four weeks.

Filling her days? For one thing, it seems like interior decor has been a top priority for the English émigrés.

“Just adding some of the finishing touches to it actually and then it really will feel like home,” she says of their six-bedroom home. “On top of that the weather here has been amazing too so we are all a happy bunch.”

Showing that kids can display the same demanding nature on both sides of the Atlantic, Beckham explains that Brooklyn, 8, Romeo, 4, and 2-year-old Cruz are already eager consumers.

“The boys are really looking forward to starting their new school so we’ve got to make sure they are all kitted out with new schoolbags and pencil cases,” she says. “You remember what it’s like going back to school, you’ve got to have a new EVERYTHING!”

Still, while her husband cautiously takes to the field because of a lingering ankle injury, the lady of the house has been checking out the California high life.

“I have been busy having a good look around LA, checking out the restaurants and the beauty parlours,” she says. “Well you never know when you might need a facial!”

Aside from easing into their new environment, the Beckhams, who have been playing hosts to extended family from England, have been social-networking for their business ventures, too.

“David and myself attended a launch last week in Bel Air (very swish)” – translation: posh – “for the launch of our latest fragrance Intimately Beckham, we met lots of people there and I thought it went really well,” she writes.

“I’m also just starting work on my new dVb denim collection – I’m really excited about starting the next project – it’s going to be totally major so keep your eyes open for that.”

It’s getting serious for Matthew McConuaghey and Brazilian hotness Camilla Alves — Matt’s meeting the mom, and on her birthday no less!

Of course this meant McConaughey actually had to throw on some clothes, but the pec-tacular actor was still lookin’ muito quente in his khakis and black shirt Friday night at Cuban restaurant El Floridita in Hollywood. Matt did the McChivalrous thing, holding Camilla’s hand as they left the restaurant.
