George Clooney put aside his political opinions to join forces with George Bush Snr to discuss the rebuilding of a Louisiana hospital on Thursday morning (Dec 21, 2006).

The “Ocean”s Thirteen” actor - a keen Democrat and a very public critic of Bush Snr’s son President George W. Bush, who is a Republican - appeared with the former US leader to promote relief efforts following the destruction caused by Hurricane Rita. Bush Snr praised Clooney saying: “I thought we could add a little spice to this event, and, boy, was I right.” “What he has done for the morale of this town is remarkable. I know there’s been a lot of tears shed over the past year.”

“Hurricane Rita, like Hurricane Katrina, showed us the very worst in nature but they’ve also brought out the best in human nature.” Bush Snr also shared a joke with notorious ladies man Clooney, telling him not to talk about his wife. Her quipped: “Don’t ask about Barbara. I’m too old to ask about Britney Spears.” Clooney joked back: “How’s Bill Clinton’s golf game?” But Bush denied the story that he had recently hit former president Clinton, a Democrat, on the head with a golf ball when they played together.

The 82-year-old retired politician and the 45-year-old actor teamed up to discuss their fundraising efforts to rebuild a Louisiana emergency care hospital, destroyed by the hurricane. Clooney said: “There is good news in all of this, which is that when the hospital gets up and running, I will not be doing any of the medical procedures.” “I’m coming to remind people in the rest of the country that just because it’s not on the front page anymore, all the problems that have been placed here from Katrina and Rita are not solved yet.”

Hilary Duff is being made into a Barbie doll.

The Red Carpet Glam Hilary Duff Doll - wearing a polka-dot dress and red satin sash - will be on sale next month. Jamie Wood, Mattel’s vice president of Barbie marketing, said:”Hilary is a great role model to girls.”

“Not only is she a stylish entertainer, actor and fashion designer, but she also shows girls that there are no limits to what they can do.” Teen idol Hilary - who is best known for starring in TV show “Lizzie McGuire” - has also designed clothes for the plastic figures.

The 19 year-old singer-and-actress will be following in the footsteps of Beyonce Knowles and Reese Witherspoon, who have also had Barbie dolls made in their likeness. Meanwhile, Hilary is reportedly furious that her ex-boyfriend Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden has started dating Nichole Richie, who she has branded a “skank.” A source told Us Weekly magazine: “Hilary doesn’t want to talk to Joel. She can’t believe he is dating Nicole. She thinks she is a skank.”

And when Hilary heard about Nicole’s recent arrest for driving under the influence, she allegedly flew into a rage. The source added: “Hilary kept asking if Nicole had been coming from Joel’s house when she was arrested. She kept saying she feels like she never knew Joel at all.” Hilary and Joel, who split up in November, dated for two-and-a-half years.

Britney Spears has shown off her parenting skills on her latest night out by taking her 15-year-old sister to a tattoo parlour.

Kevin has reportedly filed for custody of their two sons claiming that he can prove that Britney is an unfit mother.

Ben Stiller took acid when he was a teenager, but the hallucination was so bad he called his parents for help.

The “Meet the Parents” star - son of comedy duo Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara - was just 16 and home alone in New York when he decided to try the mind-bending drug, with frightening consequences. 
Stiller  told The Times magazine: “It was scary. A bad, bad trip. The first and last time I ever did it.”
“I freaked out and called my parents, who were in Los Angeles doing an episode of ‘The Love Boat’. They just had no experience of it, they had no idea how to calm me down.”
“My dad said, ‘Oh I understand what you’re going through, I smoked a cigarette when I was ten, and I was sick for two days.’ I was saying, ‘No, no, dad, it’s not like that.’ Next time you’re on acid, don’t call your parents.”

Eminem’s second divorce from Kimberley Mathers has been finalized.

The rapper - real name Marshall Mathers - reached an out-of-court settlement with his ex-wife during a hearing at Detroit’s Macomb County Circuit Court yesterday (Dec 19, 2006). Chief Judge Antonio P. Viviano said: “They conducted themselves with dignity and respect.”

The couple will share custody of their daughter, Hailie Jade Scott, who will celebrate her eleventh birthday on Christmas Day. It is not known if Kim was granted the financial support and legal fees she’d been seeking from the hip-hop star. Eminem, 34, and Kim, 31, married on January 14 this year for the second time. The rap star filed for divorce less than three months later. They had previously been married from 1999 to 2001. As well as Hailie, the couple adopted Kim’s niece Alaina, 12, and she has another daughter, Whitney, from a previous relationship.

Joan Rivers has hit out at Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton - branding them dumb blondes.

The sharp-tongued comedienne wrote a letter to her university alumni appealing for donations to her old sorority and snidely used the two blonde stars as examples of stupid young women. Accord to the New York Post newspaper, Joan wrote to Barnard alumni: “We must support women who have a sense of confidence and self-worth.” “Where have all the smart girls gone? That is a hard question to answer in an age where Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton pass as intellectuals.” Joan also took a swipe at the women she was writing to by suggesting they would have to dig in their husband’s pockets for donations, as they did not have their own money to give.

She told them: “Go through your husband’s wallet, and give everything in it.” Hotel heiress Paris has earned millions with her business ventures which include designing her own range of jewelry and accessories, launching her own nightclub chain, modeling, acting and releasing a pop album. Jessica Simpson has a successful music and film career and has also released her own line of beauty products.

Britney Spears may have been cheating on Kevin Federline before she filed for divorce.

Friends of the “Toxic” singer told America’s Star magazine she was “fooling around” with music producer J.R. Rotem before she officially split from Kevin last month. A source said: “J.R. worked with Kevin on his album and something started going on between him and Britney before she filed for divorce.” But another source refuted the allegations, telling the magazine: “There was definite chemistry between them but Britney waited until after she had split from Kevin.” Britney - who has two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, with Kevin - is now dating J.R. as well as working with him on her comeback album.

The music producer could also be the reason the “Oops!…I Did It Again” singer has cooled her friendship with Paris Hilton, as the hotel heiress also dated J.R. The source said: “It was nothing serious, just a few hook-ups. I bet a million dollars that J.R. tried to keep that a secret from Britney. She would probably flip out if she knew that he’d romanced Paris first.” It has also been reported that Britney has been taunting Kevin about her fling with J.R. and the lavish lifestyle he is missing out on since the split. A source told In Touch Weekly magazine: “Britney called Kevin and asked if he’d seen the pictures of her kissing J.R. Then she started bragging about the great sex she’d had.” “It was really bad. He didn’t even know whether to believe her, but she just started pushing his buttons. He got mad and started screaming at her.” Kevin is reportedly gathering evidence of Britney’s wild partying to use against her in a custody battle over their sons.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are gearing up for an extra festive Christmas period, as they are planning to mark the native traditions of their adopted kids in the festive season. The couple, dubbed Brangelina by the media, have two adopted children from different continents. Their five-year-old son Maddox was born in Cambodia, while his younger sister Zahara hails from the African country of Ethiopia. And since their parents are keen for them to embrace their roots, they are planning to celebrate Christmas in a way that acknowledges the kids’ cultural traditions. According to Angelina, Zahara’s Christmas is actually on January 8th, while the major celebration for Maddox is the Buddhist water festivals. ‘We’re getting into all that with them,’ the actress said. The Ethiopian Christmas celebration in January is called Ganna and usually involves the wearing of white clothes and prolonged church services, without a big emphasis on toys and gifts for kids. However, Brad and Angelina’s kids can certainly expect to be spoilt in a western way this Christmas, as the clan was recently spotted shopping for toys. This will be the first Christmas for the youngest addition to the family, baby Shiloh Nouvel, who was born in May this year.

Angelina Jolie insists Madonna knew she would run into trouble by adopting a baby from Malawi - because of the country’s uncertain adoption laws.

“The Good Shepherd” actress - who has given homes to two underprivileged children, five-year-old Maddox and Zahara, 23 months - says Madonna was open to criticism and problems because Malawi has no set guidelines for such cases.
She is quoted by Britain’s New magazine: “Madonna knows very well that she adopted from a country without legal adoption, so it was an unusual situation.” 
Angelina - who also has a seven-month-old biological daughter Shiloh Nouvel with her partner Brad Pitt - insists she will not make the same mistake as Madonna next time she welcomes an unwanted child into her home.
She said: “I don’t anticipate that being a problem for me because I don’t intend to adopt a child from a country where there is no legal adoption.”

Sharon Stone and Christian Slater are dating and plan to spend Christmas together, it has been claimed.

Rumors have been rife the pair have been romancing one another since meeting on the set of new movie “Bobby.” They have even attended several showbiz events together - including the recent Dolce and Gabbana party at Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont Hotel at which they arrived arm-in-arm - but refused to admit they were an item. Now a source close to 48-year-old Stone has insisted they are dating, and claims the “Basic Instinct” actress is going to invite Slater, 37, to her house for Christmas. The source is quoted as saying: “They’re both really happy - but they don’t have long-term expectations.” “It’s a fun fling for the holidays and Sharon is a good influence. She rarely drinks and has three kids. It’s a good match for now.”

Slater’s divorce from ex-wife Ryan Haddon was finalized in November. The pair split in January 2005 citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the break-up. They have two children, daughter Eliana, five, and seven-year-old son Jaden, together.
