Sir Paul McCartney is enjoying a road trip with new girlfriend Nancy Shevell.
The former Beatle has shunned traditional holiday destinations in favour of driving along America’s legendary Route 66 in a classic 1989 Ford Bronco.
The couple left Paul’s New York home last Thursday (30.07.08) and are expected to stay together for all of August - their longest time together since they were first linked last November.
News of the trip emerged after Paul posed for pictures with a group of fans at a service station in Springfield, Illinois on Saturday (01.08.08) after travelling almost 1,000 miles since setting out.
One fan, CJ Lowder, said: “They looked totally in love.
“Nancy jumped at the chance to take a picture of Paul with us.
“They told us they were on a rip and going to St. Louis before heading west. No one could believe it was really him - he was so laidback and ordinary.
“They seemed a great couple.”
The trip has been planned in great secrecy, with Paul, 66, and Nancy, 47, telling just a few friends.
A source close to Nancy said: “The road trip was Nancy’s idea as a way of them getting to bond and spend time together - just the two of them.
“They’ve been talking about the holiday non-stop and were so excited.
“It’s the perfect way for them to both get away from it all and really get to know each other. Paul even packed his guitar.”
According to reports, the car they are travelling in is the vehicle they were first spotted kissing in late last year.

The Beatles legend - who is embroiled in a bitter divorce battle with estranged wife Heather Mills - held hands with the ‘Pulp Fiction’ beauty as they enjoyed a romantic stroll through the gardens of London’s Kentwood House last Monday (11.19.07)

The pair - who first met at a New York party in June and were later seen at a concert together - then visited the main house, before driving off in the same car.

Shortly after they left the tourist attraction, the vehicle came to a halt and Paul was seen getting out and opening Rosanna’s door.

The three-times-divorced actress climbed out, threw her arms around Paul and tenderly kissed him before she clambered into the back of the car and he got into the front.

A witness said: “Paul looked smitten with her. They had a couple of cuddles and a kiss. It looks like it could be the beginning of something special.”

It was the couple’s second date in less than 24 hours.

 

The former Beatle - worth an estimated $1,610 million - instructed lawyers to make the offer following days of “intense and heightened” talks.

This is said to be the first time Paul, eager to avoid a public court battle, has agreed to open negotiations. A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: “This is the closest we have been to an arrangement. Paul is absolutely determined to keep his private life hidden from public scrutiny.

“The divorce has now been dragging on for nine months. There is war weariness creeping in.” “Lawyers have been in feverish discussions for the past ten days, but isn’t simply a matter of him making an offer and it being accepted.”

Paul, 64, reportedly sanctioned the offer after Heather’s sister Fiona accused him of putting his three-year-old daughter Beatrice at risk by refusing to pay for security for Heather. The source added: “They are almost there. The channels of communication have opened up.”

“It’s the first time a deal has been mentioned and both sides hope a settlement will be reached. Unless there is a major hiccup, they will not be going to court.” Terms will be drawn up by Anthony Julius and Fiona Shackleton - the same lawyers who dealt with Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s divorce - and they are hoping to settle the deal within a month. Julius - Heather’s lawyer - and Paul’s representative have so far declined to comment.

Last month, it was reported Heather and Paul - who were married for four years - had reached an out of court settlement worth $60 million. However, legal firm Mishcon de Reya, who represent Heather, quickly issued a statement denying Paul had made an offer.
