The Golden Globe-winning actor who was famed for his wild partying in the mid 90s, has given up driving fast cars and now lives “calmly” in France with partner Vanessa Paradis and their two children.
Johnny said: “I’ve have always liked speed - now I like comfort. We all go through stages of wanting fast cars and bikes. I was no different. Who wouldn’t want a Maserati? But I also wanted to ride in style, or with a bit of history. To get there and to enjoy the journey.
“I have learnt to grow up and still enjoy myself. I spent a lot of years living on the edge - everyone knows that. So it is good that I now live calmly and happily.”
The 44-year-old star, who spent his childhood moving around with his mother, also revealed he now finally feels settled.
Johnny said: “I have never felt more rooted anywhere. I have never been in one place, like this, where I do feel completely at home. Los Angeles was my home from the early 80s to the late 90s but it still felt so transient compared to this.”

Johnny Depp, 44, is still keeping mum about the undisclosed illness which landed his daughter, Lily Rose, 8, in the hospital this spring – but he is opening up about the panic that he experienced.
“To say it was the darkest moment, that’s nothing,” Johnny told Entertainment Weekly. “It doesn’t come close to describing it. Words are so small.”
“Now every single millisecond is a mini-celebration,” said Johnny. “Every time we get to breathe in and exhale is a huge victory. She pulled through beautifully, perfectly, with no lasting anything.”
Johnny also has a son, Jack, 5, with longtime partner Vanessa Paradis.

Johnny Depp has vowed never to raise his child in the US - branding the country a truly “frightening” place.
The Pirates Of The Caribbean star, 44, currently lives with his wife, actress/model Vanessa Paradis, and two children - Lily-Rose, 8, Jack, 5 - in rural northern France.
And despite the fact he grew up in the US, he is vehement about never returning to his home country with his children.
He tells the New York Post: “I’m not particularly optimistic about society. We’re in an age where everything has gone too far. It’s an ugly world.
“I’m truly frightened of America in terms of raising my daughter here. I don’t believe that is an option at all.”
Sure, there are some part of the US I wouldn’t want to raise my kids, but there are some great parts of the country where I am happy to be raising my kids.

Johnny Depp has spoken for the first time about his daughter’s hospitalization earlier this year.
“It gave us a great scare,” the actor, 43, tells Britain’s Daily Mirror. “It was a very bumpy patch, but she has come through it beautifully and unscathed, and she is now as healthy as she always was. She is wonderful.”
Lily-Rose, Depp’s 7-year-old daughter with French actress-singer Vanessa Paradis, 34, was hospitalized in London while Depp was in England filming Sweeney Todd, although a studio rep told PEOPLE at the time: “We have adjusted the schedule to accommodate [Depp’s] needs at this moment.”
