Despite break-up reports, Jessica Simpson brang Tony Romo as her date to Ashlee Simpson’s weekend wedding, a source tells PEOPLE.

Getting a head start, on Friday Jessica and Romo met for lunch at Katsuya in Hollywood. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback, dressed casually in shorts and sneakers, arrived at the restaurant in a cab for the lunch with Simpson, who wore a sexy black short-shorts and high heels. He greeted the singer with a kiss and helped her out of her Range Rover.

The lunch date comes as Simpson’s rep denies newspaper and Internet reports that Romo and Simpson have broken up. “It’s not true,” rep Cindi Berger tells PEOPLE.

Jessica Simpson hinted that her romance with sports star Tony Romo was coming to an end in a new interview with America’s Glamour magazine.

Despite her denials, insiders insist the couple has separated, and Dallas Cowboys star Romo has been telling his pals he’s no longer dating the singer.

And it appears Simpson saw the end of the high-profile relationship coming when she was interviewed for Glamour in March (08).

She tells the publication, “This article could come out and Tony and I could be broken up”.

And the rumours of a split have swelled after Romo was spotted partying with a bevy of beauties at a Chicago, Illinois bar at the weekend (10May08), while Simpson was working in Los Angeles.

One insider at the party tells Life & Style magazine, “He was surrounded by girls. We had to restrain someone who forcibly tried to make her way to his table… He zeroed in on one blonde all night, and that blonde wasn’t Jessica Simpson”.

The reported split comes at an awkward time for Simpson - her allegedly pregnant little sister Ashlee is to wed fiancee Pete Wentz this weekend (17May08).

Jessica Simpson was beaming on November 30 as she boarded a private jet in Orlando, Fla. after taping a Disney special. She had a good reason-she was going to pick up her new man, Dallas Cowboy QB Tony Romo! An excited Jessica, with a couple of close friends, headed to meet Tony at a Dallas airport. “Jessica is a little nervous but so happy to see him,” says an insider. “Jessica thinks he is hot! He’s a really nice guy and her family loves him.”

In Touch reported last week that the couple spent Thanksgiving with Jessica’s family in Texas and were looking forward to spending more time together.

The pair, who are both 27, will attend her best friend Cacee Cobb’s birthday party at Teddy’s in Hollywood on Saturday night. “She wants all her friends to meet him.” Also on the agenda for the hot new couple? “They are going take it easy and hang out at Jessica’s house.”

Jessica Simpson’s budding new romance is down to her dad’s matchmaking skills.

The ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ actress was set up on a date with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo by her dad Joe, after he realised the pair were perfect for each other.

A source close to Jessica told the New York Post newspaper: “Joe and Tony have been friendly for a while. Joe is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan, and Tony has always had a crush on her - he even said on his website about a year ago that it was his dream to date her.

“Jessica has been in Nashville and Dallas recording her new country album. When Tony found out, he called Joe and said, ‘I know she’s not dating anyone right now, can I take her out for a drink at least?’

“Jessica said it was OK for Joe to give Tony her number and they hit it off. They’ve been dating for a couple of weeks now, and Jessica is so happy. She’s been texting everyone about how great he is.”

The new couple had Thanksgiving dinner with around 25 friends and family in the exclusive Dragonfly restaurant in Dallas, before Tony helped the Cowboys win their game against the New York Jets.

This isn’t the first time Joe has set up his daughter, and probably not the last!

This is an interesting match, Tony Romo is at the top of his game right now and no wonder this guy is always smiling, now it makes sense!

Jessica Simpson is said to be unhappy her sibling’s fame is beginning to eclipse her own.

A source told Closer magazine: “Jessica finds it tough being compared with Ashlee, who’s becoming a big star and is threatening to overtake Jessica as the more successful sister.

“Jessica was always seen as the bigger star, but now Ashlee is taking over. There’s certainly a sibling rivalry between them.”

Since she started dating Pete Wentz, Ashlee, 22, has become a regular on the Los Angeles party scene and can rarely step out without being followed by a throng of paparazzi.

Jessica Simpson was at an exclusive party on a private yacht after the Vanity Fair party at the Hotel Du Cap Saturday night, but she wasn’t fitting in with fellow guests.

The part-time girlfriend of John Mayer “spent the whole night following Leonardo DiCaprio around like a lost puppy,” said our source. “He just seemed freaked out and kind of ignored her.” Simpson’s rep could not be reached.

Getting dumped by John Mayer and then trying to hook up with Leonardo DiCaprio is like getting fired from a gas station and then deciding to apply at a prestige law firm. Never going to happen.

Jessica Simpson, 26, and John Mayer, 29, reportedly met up this morning as he was spotted leaving her hotel (The Soho Grand) at 12PM today. 

A pal of Jessica’s confirms to In Touch, “They definitely went on a date last night. She still loves him, but he’s not stable. He’s scared of commitment. He breaks up with her and then regrets it and then begs her to get back together.”
