Growing up in the West Virginia mountain town of Charleston, Jennifer Garner didn’t dream of being a screen star – she wanted to be a librarian.

“This is about as far from Hollywood as any place on Earth. I wanted to be a children’s book author and a librarian,” Garner, 36, tells PEOPLE while back in Charleston, where her weekend was to include reading Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson at a gathering to help eventually expand the public library.

“My mom took my sisters and me to the library once a week when we were kids,” she recalls, “and it’s such a huge community center, especially in a town that has very few resources – to have a place with 100 computers and Internet access to everyone for free, that’s really important in a town like this.”

Their family is about to grow, and now Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck may be in the market for roomier digs.

“I guess they are looking for a bigger place now,” pal Kevin Smith told PEOPLE at a the Maxim magazine party on Saturday in San Diego where he attended Comic-Con.

The director-actor, who is a longtime friend of Affleck and starred with Garner in 2006’s Catch and Release, also revealed how he learned the news that the couple – who are parents to daughter Violet, 2 – are expecting again.

“I saw him last week. Ben came over to watch my movie (Zack and Miri Make a Porno) at the house, and he told me, ‘We’re having another baby,’” recalls Smith.

He added that parenthood comes naturally to both stars. “[Jen] is such a Martha Stewart type. She is a perfect mom,” he says. “And [Ben] is a great dad, which I found not that surprising, but it’s a side of him that I never thought about before he became a dad. He’s a great father. He loves that kid of his.”

The couple - who already have a two-year-old daughter Violet - will soon be adding to their family, revealed Jennifer’s former ‘Alias’ co-star Victor Garber.

When Victor - who officiated Ben and Jennifer’s wedding in 2005 - was asked if the actress is pregnant, he replied: “Yes, she is.”
A source close to the couple told Us Weekly magazine: “Jennifer is five months pregnant. They are both very happy.”
Jennifer, 36, recently hinted she and Ben were planning to further extend their brood.

She said: “We definitely wonder what it would be like to have another - hopefully, knock on wood, someday. My job is great to have as a mom. I get to take breaks and then work in a really concentrated way. During that concentrated time, it sucks, but whatever.”

The ‘13 Going On 30′ actress also revealed Ben, 35, is a fantastic father to Violet, adding: “You know how as a kid you picture yourself with a tall, handsome husband, and you imagine him cuddling your baby? Ben is like that, like, on crack!

“Violet prefers him to anyone. He’s a teddy bear of a guy. Nothing makes me happier than to see the two of them together and her little hands on his face. He has a prevailing calm. Of course, he has the benefit of sleep!”

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck met up with Matt Damon and his pregnant wife, Luciana, at Nobu Malibu on Saturday night for a two-hour dinner on the patio that included cooked fish and sushi rolls.

“Ben and Matt were entertaining the girls with stories, and they were all laughing a lot,” says an observer of the couples.

When dessert came, the celebratory group toasted – after all, Garner and Affleck’s third wedding anniversary was the following day.

“Jen and Ben were in a great mood, and they left Nobu hand in hand,” says the observer. Also spotted at Nobu Saturday night: Kate Hudson, back in L.A. following last week’s Santa Barbara getaway with Lance Armstrong.

Jennifer Garner has banned her daughter from becoming an actress.

The ‘Alias’ star insists she and her actor husband Ben Affleck have no desire to see their 22-month-old daughter Violet follow in their Hollywood footsteps.

When asked if Violet was showing any traits of a budding star, Jennifer replied: “Well, she is not even two, she is unaware of what we both do for a living, but no, and if she did we would both just kabosh it.”

Jennifer, 35, explained bringing Violet onto the set of her latest movie ‘The Kingdom’ - about a group of FBI agents hunting for a terrorist ring in Saudi Arabia - brought “so much job to the job” but her daughter was too young to understand what she was doing.

She said: “Oh of course she saw me in my costume, but she was too young to know why she was covered in fake goo, which was fake blood, she had no idea really.”

Oh yea don’t subject her to the horror of being rich and famous. Then again she is married to Ben “the hack” Affleck, so I do understand.

Jennifer Garner is fulfilling a lifelong ambition by taking to the Broadway stage.

Garner will star alongside Kevin Kline in a revival of Cyrano De Bergerac, which opens in New York on November 1.

She says: “Theatre’s always been my absolute dream of all dreams, and all this other stuff that I’ve done has been accidental.

“I only ended up auditioning for television and movies because I was understudying a Turgenev play on Broadway. I was so broke that, when I got a mini-series, I had to take it, and was so ashamed because I was such a snob.

“I couldn’t pass this up. Working with Kevin Kline, being in New York in the fall. I get so excited.”

Former Alias star Jennifer Garner is set to launch a TV show for mothers.

The actress and her TV presenter friend Lauren Sanchez-Whitesell are currently pitching a series only described as ‘The View’ for mothers.

Jennifer reportedly plans to talk about her marriage to Ben Affleck and their 17-month-old daughter Violet, and will appear on the show regularly.

Sanchez-Whitesell, who hosts US TV show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, said: “We’re putting together a show for moms, by moms.

“We’re pitching it next week to a network. I call Jennifer the Barbara Walters of the show. She will come on periodically. We haven’t quite settled exactly how often, but she’s the executive producer.

“We’ll talk about how to get your kids to sleep, or how do you choose the right school, or how to keep your marriage together after having kids.”
