Heather Locklear’s DUI lawyer entered a plea of no contest to reckless driving charges on Friday to avoid DUI charges. Locklear was not present at the court hearing.

The former and possible future “Melrose Place” star was arrested on September 28 for driving under the influence of prescription drugs and was reportedly pulled over by police after she was observed “driving erratically” after leaving a parking lot.

No alcohol or illegal narcotics were in Heather Locklear’s system but the D.A. reported high amounts of prescription medication following a blood test.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter also told PEOPLE “Lab tests showed she had no alcohol in her system and no illegal narcotics of any kind… We believe that the prescriptions she was taking could have impaired her ability to drive a motor vehicle safely.”

According to ABC the police were called out on the night of September 27 by Jill Ishkanian, a former reporter and editor at Us Weekly, who said Locklear appeared intoxicated. Ishkanian sold photographs of the event to celebrity news site TMZ.com for $27,500.

They’re no longer together, but Heather Locklear can still count on her ex-husband Richie Sambora.

As Locklear, 46, seeks treatment for depression and anxiety at an Arizona facility, the Melrose Place star has Sambora firmly in her corner, says a friend of the couple, who have a 10-year-old daughter, Ava.

“Without a doubt, he’s there for his daughter and her mother,” a friend of the Bon Jovi guitarist tells PEOPLE. “They may be divorced, but they are raising a little girl they both love very much.”

Sambora, who split from Locklear in 2006 after 12 years of marriage and subsequently dated Locklear’s former friend Denise Richards, is currently performing with Bon Jovi in England until June 28. The band is due to finish their tour in the U.S. with a few East Coast dates in July.

Although he’s on the road, “I’m sure he’s available if Heather should need something and certainly for Ava,” says the pal.

According to an onlooker who spotted the actors sharing some crispy-noodle prawns at Mr. Chow on March 1, “they were holding hands and really focused on each other.”

Those who know Heather say entwined fingers do not a relationship make. “She holds her friends’ hands all the time,” says a pal. “Men, women – it doesn’t mean anything.”
