Former drug addict Fergie will battle narcotics for the rest of her life and still undergoes treatment to keep her clean.

The singer used ecstasy and crystal methamphetamines in her youth. Although she is now drug-free, the 32-year-old still undergoes therapy.

She says: “It wasn’t a quick fix, it was years of work and it’s continual. You don’t go in and out of rehab and then you’re done. I constantly work at things.

“I do hypnotherapy, which is a really big thing in my life. It works well with me because you go back into your subconscious and there are positive suggestions that are said to you. It really works for me.”

They are known to bring good luck in the new year, but one Black-Eyed Pea got lucky early. After 3 years of dating, Fergie and Josh Duhamel are engaged, his rep confirms to PEOPLE.

“Fergie called a lot of her girlfriends today to tell them the news,” a source close to the singer told PEOPLE. “She said they don’t know what kind of wedding they want yet, but that she is the happiest girl on earth.”

The Las Vegas star’s rep would say only that they got engaged “recently,” but not on Christmas. TMZ.com first reported the engagement news Wednesday.

Fergie was seen sporting a diamond ring on her all-important digit back in November, during the American Music Awards, but her rep denied the engagement rumors then. The couple celebrated Duhamel’s 35th birthday last month with lots of love and little fanfare.

The 31-year-old star, who is dating “Las Vegas” actor Josh Duhamel, is fed up of hearing gossip about her getting married and insists she has no plans to start a family. 
Fergie cleared the air after heroically saving a drowning child from a swimming pool just hours before she performed at Miami’s MarketAmerica pre-Super Bowl party.

A source is quoted as saying: “This little boy got cramp in the pool and Fergie jumped off her sun lounger and scooped him out.”
“Another woman said she should be more careful while she’s expecting a baby. Fergie smiled and said she wasn’t.”
“Later she said, ‘I’ve heard that I’ve been engaged probably about seven times, and pregnant, but I’ve never been either. Sorry to disappoint.’”
