Talk about a “big give”: Drew Barrymore announced on Monday’s Oprah Winfrey Show that she is donating $1 million to the World Food Programme to help feed children in Africa.

“I have seen with my own eyes what a difference a simple cup of nutritious porridge can make in a child’s life,” the actress said. “It helps them learn, stay healthy and sets them on track for a bright future.”

Barrymore, 33, has worked with the charity since 2005 and became an Ambassador Against Hunger last year. She’s taken two trips to Kenya to see the organization’s work first hand.

“We have a dream … to feed another 10 million hungry school children in Africa by Thanksgiving Day,” said WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran, who also appeared on Oprah.

It’s nice to see celebrities do something good for a change.

The 31-year-old actress - who sings in her latest romantic comedy “Music and Lyrics” - has admitted she would love to be like the actress-turned-singer and launch a music career.
When asked if she would follow in Juliette”s footsteps and release an album, Drew gushed to BANG Showbiz: “Oh, I think she is pretty hot! I don’t know, if I ever did it would be a dream come true, because I’ve always been told, ‘Please stop singing.’” 
Drew  also revealed she loves visiting England, because she is inspired by the country’s fashion and music.
The Hollywood star, who was in London this week for the “Music and Lyrics” premiere, insists she is a complete Anglophile and likes to visit as often she can.

 

The actress - who recently split from her boyfriend of four-and-a-half years The Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti - revealed her Valentine’s heartbreak at the London premiere of her new movie “Music and Lyrics” last night (02.05.07).

She told BANG showbiz: “I’m not sure what I’m doing for Valentine’s Day. I will probably go bowling with all of my single girlfriends. Well, we have such a good time together and I love my girlfriends. We go out to dinner, to the movies, out drinking wine. It’s a great time to see my friends.”
