TROUBLED BRITNEY SPEARS last night denied she is pregnant by her British lover.

Snapper ADNAN GHALIB has been bragging to pals that the singer is expecting his baby.

But a source close to the singer said: “Britney has put on weight because the doctors have switched her prescription.”

Rumours of a possible pregnancy started back in January when the couple were pictured in a chemist buying a home pregnancy test kit.

Britney’s 16-year-old sister JAMIE LYNN is currently expecting her first child.

Meanwhile, police say they are now looking into claims the singer was drugged.

Police Captain KYLE JACKSON revealed the claims were “being considered”, though a formal investigation has not been launched.

No suspect has, as yet, been named.

Britney’s mum, LYNNE, claimed in court papers that SAM LUTFI, the singer’s formal ‘manager’ had ‘drugged’ and ’stole’ from her as well as cutting off her phone lines.

The allegations led to Lufti being served a restraining order, banning him from making contact with the singer and coming within 250 yards of her.

A new biography of Tom Cruise claims he was encouraged to end his marriage to Nicole Kidman by Scientology bosses.

Andrew Morton’s controversial new book alleges the church soured towards Kidman after she gave an interview in 1998 describing herself as “a catholic girl”, and steered Cruise into ending their union.

Morton alleges that in 1999 Cruise took a course that would identify “those in his life who create problems and difficulties”. Kidman was identified as such.

The author writes, “Shortly after Kidman’s Newsweek interview, senior Scientology leaders discussed their strategy to keep Tom in the fold. The fear was that a lukewarm Nicole could fatally compromise Tom’s commitment to his faith.”

Morton also claims when the marriage ended in January 2001, Kidman was informed through a lawyer’s letter. Morton writes: “She was told she would never make another movie.”

He claims Kidman discovered she was pregnant shortly after the split. When she suffered a miscarriage, Cruise sent flowers but never visited, the book alleges.

The actor’s lawyer Bert Fields has dismissed the biography as “a bunch of lies”.

She told America’s GQ magazine: “That girl was the epitome of beauty when I was younger. And we built her up and just ripped her down, put every aspect of her life under a microscope - we probably made 90 per cent of the stuff up along the way.

“I can’t even imagine if my life was like hers. She’s someone that I’m rooting for, and I hope she can make that comeback, definitely.”

In non-Paris Hilton related news, Christine Aguilera and Jordan Bratman stopped by a maternity center yesterday, fueling rumors that Christina is pregnant. TMZ reports they stopped by New York’s Maternal Fetal Medicine Association, known for their expertise in high-risk pregnancies and state-of-the-art ultrasounds.

The perfect pair arrived for the ceremony together and took to the red carpet hand-in-hand at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
