Gervais: Borat is funnier than me

Gervais: Borat is funnier than me
Despite winning numerous awards and scientists proclaiming that he has the ultimate comedy face, Ricky Gervais believes his talents are far outshone by Borat.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s faux Kazakh reporter is currently both shocking and entertaining cinemagoers across the world with humour that Gervais believes he can’t compete with.

“It’s easy to make people laugh. However Sacha is just a different class,” Gervais told the Sun in an interview.

“His work is on an entirely different level to anyone else. It’s nearly a performance art. It’s proper satire which is very rare. He’s exposing prejudice there and of course it is very funny.”
Bashful Gervais also found time to praise fellow British comedian Jonathan Ross.

Although ‘Wossy’ has come under fire for his £18 million payday with the BBC, Gervais believes that he is more than worth the money.
“People can choose to either tune in or not. If he’s no good people won’t watch him,” he said.
“£18 million is the whole deal over three years including production costs. He’s value for money because he’s so funny.”
But for those who can’t get enough of Gervais’ talents, he’ll be appearing in cinemas soon alongside Ben Stiller and Robin Williams in Night at the Museum.

Borat trial adjourned

Borat trial adjourned
The lawsuit brought by two US students who say they were tricked into making sexist and racist remarks in comedy film Borat has been adjourned until February 27th.

Representatives of 20th Century Fox, the producers of the hit film starring Sacha Baron Cohen as a journalist from Kazakhstan touring the US, appeared briefly before a Los Angeles court yesterday to deny the claims.

Both students from South Carolina are seeking unspecified damages and want the scene they appear in to be removed from both the cinematic and future DVD cut.

They claim the racist and sexist comments they made on screen were a result of producers giving them alcohol beforehand, adding that they had been promised the film would never be shown stateside.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, has proved a massive hit on both sides of the Atlantic but has been subject to a range of lawsuits from people who claim they were misrepresented in the film.

Wedding bells for 'Borat'

Sacha Baron Cohen is set to tie the knot next summer.

It is believed that the ‘Borat’ star’s fiancee Isla Fisher has converted to the Jewish faith and that the pair have now agreed a wedding date.

According to a source, it took the Australian actress almost a year to complete the process of converting to Judaism.

And the British comedian is believed to be very excited about the prospect of marrying the ‘Wedding Crashers’ actress, with the insider claiming he ‘can’t wait’.

Apparently ‘a lot of A-list celebs’ are expected to attend the nuptials.

Cohen, 35, and 30-year-old Fisher have been engaged for more than two years.

Promoting her movie ‘Wedding Crashers’, Isla admitted there was a lot still to be planned for her own big day.

‘All I know is that I’ve ruled out wearing fairy wings,’ she said. ‘When I was nine I wanted to get married in fairy wings and now I realise that’s not cool any more.’

Isla was previously engaged to Darren Day.
