But, NBC’s three-hour telecast — which saw Star Jones and LaToya Jackson fired and NeNe Leakes quitting — didn’t fare so well: Celebrity Apprentice (7 million total viewers, 2.4 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic) was the lowest-rated spring telecast for the franchise, dipping 23 percent. Dateline (3.9 million, 0.8) served as a weak lead-in, down 33 percent. The Peacock placed fourth for the night in the key demo.

CBS won the night with 60 Minutes (13.8 million, 2.3) surging 43 percent, thanks to President Obama’s only televised interview about Osama bin Laden’s death. The two-hour finale of The Amazing Race (8.6 million, 2.5) was the lowest-rated in franchise history. CSI: Miami (9.7 million, 2.0), however, ended its season with a double-digit uptick, but still was one of the series’ lowest-rated episodes.

ABC’s block was flat or down, with the exception of aging family drama Brothers & Sisters (7.2 million, 2.0), which saw impressive boosts of 25 percent in 18-49 and 26 percent in viewers for its Season 5 finale. America’s Funniest Home Videos (6.4 million, 1.7) and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (8 million, 2.1) were both down, while Desperate Housewives (9.7 million, 2.8) remained steady.

Fox ranked No. 1 among adults 18-34 and No. 2 in the key demo with its animation block: American Dad (3.3 million, 1.5), The Simpsons (5.5 million, 2.5) and The Cleveland Show (4.8 million, 2.2) were all down slightly, while Bob’s Burgers (4.2 million, 2.0) and Family Guy (6.5 million, 3.2) ticked up. ABC and Fox tied for second on the night.

The actor sounded plenty fed up Saturday night according to reports–and not because Gary Busey got tossed off “Celebrity Apprentice.”

So what got the Goodfella feeling so bad?

During an interview about his film career with NBC’s Brian Williams tied to the Tribeca Film Festival, which the actor helped found, the conversation strayed into politics and the notoriously tight-lipped interviewee reportedly got more talkative.

Discussing the recent near government shutdown, De Niro took a moment to draw a distinction between President Barack Obama, whom the actor stumped for 2008, and others in Washington, D.C.

“This is crazy,” said the actor, according to Movieline. “And I know Obama was trying to bridge the gap. His intentions are really good. Maybe some things are not as good as we all would like, but his intentions were right. A lot of these guys, their intentions are not even good. They’re just playing the game. And they’re playing with people’s lives.”

The issue of the president’s birth certificate especially seemed to get De Niro fired up.

“I won’t mention names, but certain people in the news the last couple weeks, just, what are they doing? It’s crazy. They’re making statements about people that they don’t even back up,” said De Niro, per the website. “Go get the facts before you start saying things about people.”

Williams asked if De Niro was talking about the “Celebrity Apprentice” host (and possible presidential candidate ), and De Niro reportedly confirmed he was.

“It’s like a big hustle. It’s like being a car salesman. Don’t go out there and say things unless you can back them up. How dare you? That’s awful to do. To just go out and speak and say these terrible things? Unless you just wanna get over and get the job. It’s crazy.”

Guess that means neither De Niro nor Jerry Seinfeld will be appearing on Celebrity Apprentice anytime soon.

And yes, since this is Donald we’re talking about, the insults flew fast and furious, and, as always, below the belt.

Well, if nothing else, he’s at least proving that those debates with Barack Obama would be pretty entertaining. Ridiculous, but entertaining. But as for this Jerry feud, well, in the words of Seinfeld himself, what’s the deal with that?

Simply this: Trump was back on his bully pulpit yesterday, writing a public letter condemning Seinfeld after the funnyman had the nerve (the nerve!) to back out of a fundraiser this fall for his son’s charity, the Eric Trump Foundation.

Reading between the lines of Trump’s missive, it’s clear that Seinfeld pulled out because he (along with the rest of the nation’s rational thinkers) was apparently growing uncomfortable with the follicle-challenged reality star’s birther rhetoric and continued quest to call for President Obama to produce his birth certificate. (Nevermind that it’s already been proven he has one. Why should a little thing like facts and showing respect to the leader of the free world get in the way of a good dogfight?)

“I just learned you canceled a show for my son’s charity because of the fact that I am being very aggressive with respect to President Obama, who is doing an absolutely terrible job as our leader,” Trump wrote in the letter, per Page Six, referring to the Sept. 13 event which would benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

“We don’t care that you broke your commitment, even though the children of St. Jude are very disappointed, and despite the fact that your manager clearly stated you are ‘truly a man of his word.’ ”

All sounding a bit too civil? Don’t worry, here it comes …

“What I do feel badly about is that I agreed to do, and did, your failed show, ‘The Marriage Ref,’ even though I thought it was absolutely terrible … Despite its poor ratings, I didn’t cancel on you like you canceled on my son and St. Jude. I only wish I did.”

And for the kiss-off, er, sign-off: “You should be ashamed of yourself!”

Or not. A rep for Seinfeld told the paper that Jerry “feels this kind of demagoguery has no place in public discourse.”

And proving just how much classier he actually is than Trump, even before the “Apprentice” boss’ letter went public, Seinfeld compensated both the Eric Trump Foundation and St. Jude’s for backing out, making a contribution to both organizations.

As for his suddenly vacated slot, it’s already been filled. Stepping in is former “Celebrity Apprentice” winner Bret Michaels.

Prejean, 21, failed to divulge before last month’s Miss USA pageant that she had posed in her underwear as a teenager in the photos. In announcing his decision, Trump said the pageant had determined that while some of the pictures were “risque,” they were still acceptable under pageant rules.

Prejean also sparked controversy when she answered a pageant judge’s question by saying that she believes marriage should only be between a man and a woman. Trump told reporters there was also nothing improper about this, saying Prejean responded to a tough, controversial question with “an honorable answer from her heart.”

My friend Billy works at the Buffalo Club in Santa Monica. A couple days ago Donald Trump came in and left him a $10,000 tip! Wow! My friends think he’s just trying to promote his celebrity Apprentice but whatever. Billy told me Donald hardly even talked to him until the end when he asked, “What’s the biggest tip you ever got?” I guess Jerry Bruckheimer (sp?) comes in a lot and once tipped him $500 on a $1000 tab and Bill told him. Trump just wanted to show he’s got the biggest dick!

DONALD Trump wants to try to whip the world’s most famous trio of bimbos into shape and save their careers.

The Donald tells Page Six he’s talking with Britney Spears about appearing on his upcoming “Celebrity Apprentice,” and that Paris Hilton has also expressed an interest in being scrutinized by the mega-mogul. He’s also planning to call Lindsay Lohan this week to see if she’d be willing to try to salvage her plummeting career on the show.

“We’re negotiating with Britney right now. Can you imagine her doing it?” Trump told Page Six. “We’re not sure what will happen. She’s a [bleep]ing mess. And that little reality show she had did nothing. But she likes the idea of being on television and I think she’d be great.” Hilton, he adds, “wants to be on, and we’re thinking about it, but I don’t know if we’re going to do it.”

And Lohan? “Another [bleep]ing mess. We haven’t asked her yet, but I’m going to call her this week. It would a positive thing for her to do . . . for all of them,” he says.

Hilton’s spokesman, Mike Sitrick, said he wasn’t aware of any deal but acknowledged that Trump and Paris’s father, Rick Hilton, are friends. Reps for Spears and Lohan didn’t get back to us.

In the meantime, Trump says he’s already signed an eye-popping list of A-listers, B-listers and has-beens to be subjected to his notorious “You’re Fired” treatment.

They include: Jim Cramer, Carmen Electra, Joan Rivers, Naomi Judd, George Foreman, original “Apprentice” villain Amorosa, Kimora Lee Simmons, Pete Rose, Dana Patrick, Tony Hawk and Jeff Gordon.

“There are more than a hundred others who want to be on the show,” Trump said.

One big name who definitely won’t appear is Rosie O’Donnell, who slung mud with Trump when she was on “The View.” After Trump recently said he’d consider having her on, her rep shot back, “It will not happen in this lifetime or beyond.”

In the celebrity version of “The Apprentice,” the stars will raise money for various charities during the competition in which they vie to work for Trump.

The 6-lb. 14-oz. girl, named Kai Madison, joins uncle Barron, The Donald’s own 1-year-old son with wife Melania, among the youngest Trumps.”Everyone’s great,” Trump Jr. said in a phone call from the hospital. “Baby’s great, Vanessa’s great – and I’m getting used to the idea [of being a father].”
