The 007 actor fired shots from a sniper rifle and the superspy’s trademark Walther Ppk pistol after heading to a range in Long Island, New York with his pal Anthony Cumia.

Cumia tells Britain’s The Sun newspaper he allowed Craig to use his personal weapons for some target practice, and was impressed with the actor’s shooting skills.

He says, “Daniel is an excellent shot. He got about 95 per cent accuracy. We spent the entire day there. He wanted to brush up on his shooting. I packed almost my entire arsenal – and made sure I had my Ppk. When he fired it, that was about as close to Bond talk as we got.”

Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes intend to continue work on the 23rd James Bond movie.

Despite studio MGM pulling the plug on the movie indefinitely – as well as having continuous problems with the production on ‘Lord of the Rings’ prequel ‘The Hobbit – both the lead star and the original intended director will work on the movie, Deadline.com reports.

There is currently no timescale for the release of the action movie, with Mendes moving on to work on novel adaptation ‘On Chesil Beach’ and Craig filming ‘Cowboys & Aliens’, but both are said to be keen to be involved when financial problems at MGM are resolved.

The third movie in the franchise helmed by Daniel Craig – which has yet to be titled – was said to have been officially axed last week leaving many involved in the production left with “bad feeling”.

A source told the Daily Mirror: “Members of the production crew have been told the Bond film has been canned. There is a lot of bad feeling as a lot of time, money and hard work has already gone into this.”

Screenwriter Peter Morgan, who wrote the scripts for ‘The Queen’ and ‘Frost/Nixon’, suggested that the third outing of Daniel Craig as Bond would grip audiences, but refused to confirm anything else other than saying “it’s a shocking story”.

He said: “Bond creates a hysteria around it, one that I haven’t previously known. It’s a magnet for publicity – everyone wants to know what’s going on with the new Bond.”

Morgan has been writing the first draft of ‘Bond 23′ between July and October this year.

Earlier this year, Daniel Craig confirmed that the next installment of the movie franchise would begin filming in 2010, while Dame Judi Dench has previously hinted she would film in early 2011.

Susan Boyle has been tipped as one potential contender to record the next James Bond theme.

Monty Norman, composer of the 007 theme, said: “They’ll think seriously because she’s got the right kind of sweeping voice.”

The ‘Quantum of Solace’ actor claims the world’s current economic climate is taking its toll on movie producers, who may struggle to find the cash for the next instalment in the spy franchise.

He said: “As far as the next film is concerned, there is nothing scheduled. Economically the world is in quite a lot of trouble so who knows if we can afford to do another Bond movie any time soon?”

Despite his concerns, Craig would have no hesitation saving the world as 007 again.

He said: “I’m quite superstitious and I don’t take anything for granted. I’d love to do another one.”

Craig, 40, has revealed similar character traits between himself and his onscreen hero, saying he could also end someone’s life to protect his loved ones.

He added to Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: “I would kill for my family, it’s as simple as that. And my friends are the most important thing to me.”

The drinks giant has teamed up with the makers of the latest Bond film ‘Quantum of Solace’ to launch the special version of their Coke Zero drink – named after the agent’s code number 007.

‘Quantum of Solace’, which sees Daniel Craig reprise his role as the British spy, is released on October 31 and Coca-Cola will simultaneously launch the new ‘Zero Zero Seven’ logo and limited edition black bottles in the £5 million deal.

The company hopes the marketing strategy will make Coke Zero – which is a sugar-free version of Coca-Cola – more appealing to men.

A spokesperson for Coca-Cola said: “It’s an honour to partner Coke Zero with such an iconic franchise as Bond.”

Bobby Britton, brand director of Coca-Cola Great Britain said: “The new edgier Bond persona is the ultimate embodiment of the Coke Zero brand personality and expected to make the brand more popular with its target audience of 20-something men.”

The limited edition ‘Zero Zero Seven’ Coke will sell for £1.50 at upmarket department store Harrods in London, as well as being available at other outlets across the UK.

The combination of Daniel’s piercing blue eyes and rippling physique as he emerges from the sea in tiny blue swimming trunks in the movie proved to be a major vote winner.
He beat off stiff competition from a host of Hollywood heartthrobs, including George Clooney and Johnny Depp, to win the coveted title.

The survey – which polled 4,000 women – saw British men outnumbering US stars eight-to-two in the top ten. “Sin City”" actor Clive O. finished as runner-up, while “The holiday” star Jude Law came third.
George and Johnny flew the flag for America in fifth and sixth place.
Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan rounded off the top ten, just below “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor Orlando Bloom, singer Robbie Williams and soccer star David Beckham .

Others to make it into the top 100 included screen icon Robert Redford and music mogul Simon Cowell.
